A tranquil coastal retreat

Designed by Ola Architecture Studio, Franklin House is a tranquil coastal retreat in Portsea, created as a place of calm, gathering and connection. Inspired by Japanese design principles and its beachside setting, the home balances simplicity and warmth through natural materials, generous light and a strong connection to landscape.

Constructed from cross-laminated timber and carefully embedded within its coastal surrounds, the residence feels humble from the street yet expansive and welcoming within. Soft textures, organic forms and a restrained palette create the "fuzzy white cocoon" envisioned in the original brief — a peaceful sanctuary designed to adapt to both quiet moments and lively family gatherings.

Featured within the home, Looms' Ecru Stripe Hand Towel complements the project's warm, natural materiality. Its subtle woven texture and soft neutral tones sit comfortably amongst the timber-lined interiors, reinforcing the sense of calm, simplicity and everyday ritual that defines the home.

A thoughtful retreat where architecture, nature and comfort come together effortlessly.
