How To Choose Towels For Your Bathroom

If you’ve just renovated your bathroom, or are simply refreshing what you already have, towels can end up being either the first decision you make or the last.

We often have clients who reach this stage and suddenly the choice feels overwhelming. Colour, pattern, quantity, placement. Who knew something so simple could carry so much weight in the overall look and feel of a bathroom?

Stone, tile and tapware shape the structure of a bathroom, but towels are what bring it to life. They soften hard edges. They introduce texture. They carry colour in a way that feels lived-in rather than styled. They are often the detail that shifts a space from finished to considered.

The truth is, the physical space is only part of the story. Texture and colour in soft furnishings are how you communicate atmosphere and the feeling you want someone to have when they step inside. Whether that’s just for you and your partner, your children, visitors or clients, don’t underestimate the power of a well-chosen set of towels.

Here are three things we always suggest thinking about.

1. Who is using the space?

Start with practicality.

Is it a guest bathroom that only needs to look beautiful occasionally, or a hardworking family space used every day? White and cream can feel timeless and refined, but they may not be the most forgiving choice for children. Deeper tones or patterned designs tend to handle daily life more easily.

Think about proportion as well. In a smaller bathroom, our 'classic' (smaller than the Loom Standard) towel can feel more balanced. If one of you loves pattern and the other prefers something calmer, layer them. Ecru paired with Azure Mist, or Linen beside Garnet, creates interest without feeling busy.

All of our towels have a natural ecru edging so they complement one another, regardless of design.

2. Consider your light and fixtures

Light changes everything.

Bathrooms filled with natural light can hold deeper tones beautifully. Colours like Garnet or Navy add depth and a sense of mood without feeling heavy. In spaces with little natural light, lighter tones such as White or Linen can brighten and soften the room.

Your fixtures matter too. Copper tapware is warmed by tones like Pink Banksia. Black tapware pairs well with stronger graphic designs such as Black and White Wave. Grey and White Wave is quietly versatile and works in most spaces.

Also consider how your towels will hang. Vertical stripe designs such as Regatta or Azure Stripe have a beautiful drape when displayed on a hook. A hand towel folded on stone creates a different impression to one draped over a rail. These small decisions influence the overall feeling more than you might expect.

3. Trust your instinct

Many of our designs contain more than twenty coloured threads and are woven in many patterns so there are many options and combinations to choose from. It can be difficult to visualise what will work in your bathroom when you are not standing in it.

If you are unsure, email us or bring photos into our store, speaking with our team, or purchasing a Face Towel first can help you make a confident decision.

Towels are an everyday essential. While you are investing in softness and longevity, do not forget about design.

If you want to feel like you are on holiday every day, do not choose a neutral towel simply because it feels safe. Choose the pink, green or blue that makes you happy when you see it. Light Sage or Pink Banksia might be the right choice.

Sometimes we make decisions based on what we think we should do, rather than what we are drawn to. You are the one using them every day.

Let your towel reflect how you want to feel stepping out of the shower. Calm. Energised. Confident. Playful.
